Punjab Launches First Transgender School in Multan — A Bold Step Toward Equality and Empowerment

In a groundbreaking move toward social inclusion and equal rights, the Punjab government has inaugurated its first-ever transgender school in the city of Multan. This initiative is historic because it gives transgender people the chance they've been waiting for to study in a safe, respectful, and supportive setting.

For years, the transgender community in Pakistan has faced severe social exclusion—denied access to schools, jobs, and even basic healthcare. Many transgender individuals were forced to abandon their studies due to bullying, discrimination, and lack of acceptance in mainstream educational institutions. That story will be rewritten by this new school. The school follows the same academic program as other Punjabi public schools, from primary through high school.
What makes it truly unique is its inclusive approach:
specially trained teachers, a discrimination-free atmosphere, and a curriculum designed not only to educate but to empower.

The transgender community's response has been overwhelming. Many adults who were once forced out of school are now enrolling with renewed hope, proving that it’s never too late to learn and grow.

Although this initiative represents a significant first step, experts believe that additional systemic reforms are required to follow. Awareness campaigns, employment opportunities, and anti-discrimination laws must go hand-in-hand with such educational efforts to truly uplift the transgender community.
Nonetheless, Punjab’s initiative has set a powerful example for other provinces and countries. It sends a clear message: education is a right, not a privilege—and certainly not limited by gender identity.
